Using RSS Aggregators to Build a Better Online Business

RSS aggregators are another one of those terms that most of us who want to successfully run an online business don’t completely understand. Of course, the better we understand our online business tools, the better and stronger our online business can grow and the higher our profits will ultimately be. And that’s why we are in this online business in the first place.

Although we understand that RSS aggregators can effectively help us run a more efficient and interesting online business, we get so lost in the technological phrasing that we never really understand what we have at our fingertips. Once referred to as “Rich Site Summary,” the RSS acronym has been recently transformed into “Really Simple Syndication.”

Think for a moment about the type of website you want and the type of website that most people bother to bookmark. First of all, it has to hold information of value, something that will positively affect their life in one way or another. Secondly, it has to go through regular updates. Websites that never change are not nearly as popular or informative as those that are updated weekly. RSS feeds allow the user to know when their favorite websites have undergone some type of update or transformation that just might interest them. And if they are reminded at the right time and with the right words, they will move into action and start returning to the site, passing on information and recommendations about the site, or make a purchase.

The RSS feed has become such a popular tool for building an online business that the abilities and expectations of what they really can do has increased as well. In fact, through the use of an aggregator, an RSS feed has the capacity to retrieve new information for a user, arrange the information in a manner that is readable, and then even make itself aware of changes within the user’s headlines that might lead to a higher demand for information. Really, the technology has simplified the communication process to the point that many online business owners are now using RSS feed aggregators instead of email updates and notifications. Of course, you don’t have to be interested or even part of an online business to realize the power of the RSS feed.

If you’re still not really sure about what an RSS feed is and how it can help your online business, you are very much not alone. Many inter-preneurs really don’t have a strong grasp on the power of RSS feed aggregators. Think of it like a window, a similar window to the one you probably use to surf the internet, only this is a window that can bring forth new information within a heartbeat of a second in some cases. The RSS aggregator is able to understand when a website updates its information and then brings that new information right into the laptop or desktop of their choice.

That’s pretty amazing, huh? For those of us who love to understand exactly how technology works, it is really rather simple. The RSS aggregator is able to literally save files and information that one website keeps and then note all changes and resave the information. This is much handier than trying to explain things in a long winded email as well as trying to get the word out without an email list. In the case of an RSS feed, he information regarding changes on the website are then stored again and the user is updated. It is a very simple process of increasing communication while also cutting down on interruption and websites that are down for services and additions.

The RSS feed is able to document the information in the order that it was received, thus you don’t have to be worried about compiling your website’s information to be just like everyone else’s for the sake of clarity. Your RSS feed can simply alert you clientele about changes and updates and when they were made so that they realize there is a reason to return to the website. When used in this fashion, and with professionalism, an RSS feed is a highly effective online business tool.

Users also get a headline or short description detailing the changes, which also helps them to determine when they would be interested in visiting the website for more information. The user is in charge of the RSS feed connecting to their URL, creating a personalized updating service that fits everyone who chooses to use it.

Fortunately, RSS feeds and RSS aggregators are not exclusive. You can use one to help you build your online business even if you are a brand new, tiny, unknown site that has cropped up in the last few days or an older corporate website that needs to update more frequently and efficiently.

Using Opt-in Lists to Build a Better Online Business – Revealing the Myths of Opt-in Email

Opt-in email lists can either be the key to your online business success or end up becoming the great down fall of what could have been a fabulous online business for you. Unfortunately, with so many opt-in email myths creating such a stir, it can be difficult to decipher between helpful information and not so helpful information. So I am here to help.

Myth number one: Email is ineffective for marketing because there simply aren’t enough people with active email accounts.

This is not accurate. If you are trying to build an online business, then you are looking for people who are already online and who tend to do business online. Every day the internet grows by another 3% through upgrades, additions, and of course first time users. Those who have any type of online account also have an email account, as internet connection software includes email as part of the package.

Myth number two: Email marketing offends people and turns people off to my business.

This is not accurate, either. It is spam that offends people and turns people off to your business. Always seek out permission, which is why we call it opt-in email lists. Opt-in emails lists is short for optioning in. People are choosing to be a part of your transmissions.

Myth number three: Emailing everyone is a waste of time and energy.

In some cases, this would be true, however, we are not talking about emailing everyone. We are talking about emailing those who have a desire to be on your list. If they have signed up, then your time is well spent when you include them.

Myth number four: Maybe it was effective before, but I started my online business too late to market via email.

While there is no doubt that opt-in email lists have been popular for a long time, they are still popular because they work. Opt-in email lists are not a trend, but a solid and basic marketing tool.

Using opt-in email lists are still an effective and efficient method of marketing your online business. Whether you are trying to sell a product or are attempting to recruit others to join you, those who join into an email list do so because they want to be there and want the information. You are going to end up competing with a lot of other people who want the very best in marketing techniques. Crafting creative subject lines and avoiding the template copy and paste advertising writing will help you gain the attention of more readers.

Building an opt-in list is more effective than joining one that is already in existence. Joining an opt-in email list is the most common method of email marketing. While this can lead to successful online businesses, and can be a great place to start when you are learning, the competition can be heavy. Building your own requires the collection of information from people who will voluntarily provide you with their name and email address. If you are going to build one from scratch, you will probably have to come up with numerous creative methods of asking people to join your own personalized list. Possible and well worth the effort, but often better to get your feet wet in an existing opt-in email list.

You can usually grab a few email addresses through implementing simple yet effective techniques when combining brick and mortar stores with online business. Your cash register, the sales associates, and the “freebie method” are all great ways for brick and mortar individuals to collect email addresses daily.

Those without a store front can apply the same methods with a little creativity and a little help from existing stores. Get permission first, but you can set up your own little self promotional area in many different stores and run your own campaign. Set up a free giveaway station and in exchange for opting into to your list you will enter each name in a drawing at the end of the month. This seems like a difficult leap, but it is one of the most effective methods of collecting email addresses as you grow,

How To Build A Highly Targeted Friend List on Facebook

Most internet marketers realize that social networking sites are an important part of the online business strategy. However many times if you ask these same people what their exactly strategies are for using these sites, they don’t really have much to say.

If you will be using Facebook to promote your online business, you need to understand that you absolutely have to have a clearly defined strategy in place.

Using social networking websites to promote your online business puts the reputation of your business on the line. You want other social networking sites to have a good image of your business and the only way to do this is to use these websites in the correct way.

Spamming the websites with your advertisements is definitely NOT the right way to go about this. People who are spammers and also come across to users as insincere are quickly exposed on these websites.

Many times people seem to forget that the primary purpose of social networking sites is to be social and not to directly sell! The members of these social networking communities respect new members that have something worthwhile to say and will add value to the community.

This doesn’t mean that you can not promote your products on these websites. Yes, they can become a good source of sales revenue. However the only way that you will get to this point is to first focus on building relationships.

The Facebook Strategies Guide will show you how to apply very specific strategies that will help you to create a winning Facebook Page or Facebook Group that can help you to take advantage of the viral effects of Facebook in order to grow your business.

This guide also explains why different types of businesses need to use somewhat different strategies on Facebook to become successful.

Aside from using Facebook to create new customers, you will also learn how to use Facebook to develop relationships with the top leaders of your industry. This is probably the most important secret to using Facebook because it is nearly impossible to achieve exponential growth if you do not have the industry leaders as your colleagues.

By following this guide to the unwritten rules of Facebook you will avoid all of the mistakes that Facebook newbies make while trying to become popular on Facebook. Not only can using Facebook the wrong way put your business’s reputation on the line, it can also result in you getting banned from Facebook!

The Facebook Strategies Guide is a six book series that was developed by internet marketing experts to guide you through the difficulties of learning to use this site to your advantage. Stop wasting time trying to figure things out on your own by guessing and get ahead of your competition by reading this guide.

How to Build an Impressive Social Networking Presence, Beginning With Facebook

Professional and social networking sites like LinkedIn, MySpace, Facebook, and Squidoo are effective outlets for finding new readers, but it is easy to find your message spread thin if you don’t choose the right strategy. Many businesses settle for sparse profiles on various sites, never discovering the other powerful marketing tools many of these social networking platforms have to offermost of them for free.

To avoid the scattershot approach, choose one or two social networking sites that fit your business well and invest the time to maximize your presence in them. Let’s explore what that might look like if Facebook is one of your choices.

Prepare your best information before you start.

Avoid the “I will go back and fill that in later” trap. Have all your necessary information on hand, ready to copy and paste on the spot. Complete a worksheet containing:

1. Key Terms:
Make a list of your best key terms and weave them into the rest of your worksheet items. Key terms are one, two, or three word terms that someone might use if they were searching for your business in a search engine.

2. General Information:
Your Name
Business Name
Email Addresses
URLs
Instant Messaging screen names

3. Biographical and Descriptive Information:
Short bio (50 words)
Longer bio (100 words)
Short company description (50 words)
Longer company description (100 words)
Business mission statement

4. List of Products

I based these worksheet items on a typical Facebook profile and page. If you choose a different social networking site, examine some completed profiles and base your worksheet items on them.

Create an account and thoroughly complete your profile

If you haven’t already, get a Facebook account. Completely fill out your profile using your worksheet. Under the relationships tab, choose “networking.” You can skip the personal and education tabs for business profiles, but there is no harm in filling them out. If you have an existing account, upgrade your profile information using your key terms.

But don’t stop there!

Facebook, like most good social networking platforms, offers many marketing opportunities for businessessome for free. You can find these by clicking the “Advertising” link in the footer of the Facebook site, or by following this link: http://www.facebook.com/business/.

Since I can’t cover all of the marketing tools in one article, let’s focus on my favorite: The Facebook Page. It’s my favorite not only because it is free, but because it makes use of the many diverse Facebook applications.

Facebook pages are specifically for marketing a business or a product. They offer a way for a business to represent itself to the Facebook community in an authentic way. Facebook users can search pages the same way they search for people within the network community.

Create your page by going to “Page Manager” in the left sidebar of your Facebook profile, or by following this link: http://www.facebook.com/business/ and choosing Facebook Pages. Choose the best category for your business.

Use key terms in the name of your Facebook page!

It seems that the actual page name is the only text on a Facebook page that is used in a search. With that in mind, use at least two of your best key terms in your page name.

Populate your page with all of your best worksheet information. You may have only a few seconds to catch a reader’s attention, so put your best key terms forward.

Once your page is in place, add applications to help represent your company in your own unique way. To find applications for your page, click on “Applications” in the upper left corner of your page, or search for them here: http://www.facebook.com/apps/.

Applications are not difficult to install and are usually very easy to set up. Use this general rule of thumb when choosing an application: If you can’t figure out how to set it up after the second try, find another one. There is often more than one application available to accomplish the same task.

Applications Top Picks:

My Flickr (http://apps.facebook.com/myflickr/): Display photos from your Flickr account using this application. These photos can include logos, product photos, photos from events, etc.

Upcoming (http://apps.facebook.com/upcoming/): Add all of your events to upcoming.org, and you can easily display them on your Facebook page with Upcoming’s Facebook application.

YouTube Box (http://apps.facebook.com/videobox/): Allows visitors to play your YouTube videos right on your Facebook page.

Simply RSS (http://apps.facebook.com/simplyrss/): This allows you to display up to eight RSS feeds on your Facebook page and display the feeds from your business’s main site and newsrooms.

Implementing these applications creates an interactive page that also gives visitors a personable look into your business. To see all of these applications in use on one page, visit http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dalton-Publishing/9792568507.

Note: If you use a particular application regularly, consider donating to the application’s creatorthey do not get paid to develop these applications.

Promoting your social networking presence

Now that you have invested the time in creating an impressive presence on Facebook (or whichever social networks you chose), go the extra mile and research how you can promote your new presence both inside and outside of the network. Here is a link to Facebook’s promotional guidelines: http://www.facebook.com/pages/manage/promo_guidelines.php.

Of course, invite everyone on your mailing lists to join your network and visit your sharp new page!

Don’t turn your back on your investment

Remember: The social Web is a fickle place! You need to keep your content dynamic and interesting in order to encourage people to return to your page, or to recommend it to their friends. Do this, and you will see better results than those who just move on to building their next profile. Once you have a good, healthy presence in one community, use your experience to move on to your next successful presence.

How Social Media Marketing Can Build Your Business

In conversation with other marketers, I am often asked how Social Media Marketing is useful to a website. I realize that not everyone understands how social media marketing (SMM) can affect a websites page rank, traffic, sales (the list could go on).

Content is an extremely valuable resource to all web users. By putting it to work for your website you can find yourself as the “Reliable Content Provider” also known as an “Authority” on that topic. You can use social media to give you that authority.

Recently, I implemented just a few of the social media techniques taught my Social Media Rockstars and promoted my website to top ten Google rankings – making it an authority site for a keyword related to my business. Here is my example of how social media marketing affects the natural search listing.

1. First, I had a business website that needed more traffic (what website couldn’t use more traffic). This is already a successful website for a few other keywords, but I wanted to spread the valuable content provided with this website.

2. I then researched a high traffic, low competition keyword that was related to my business website. You only want traffic that is looking or searching for what you can provide them. I do not want to falsely advertise with irrelevant content otherwise all my efforts with social media marketing would be a waste.

3. Next, I researched my market to find out what they were looking for and how I could best provide valuable content to the web searchers looking up that keyword.

4. Then I created multiple forms of content – content is information provided to a website searcher; this can be text, video, or audio. *Remember that relevant content is what you want to create.*

The content was broken down into one short video and 12 articles. 3 of the articles were 1000 words, and the remaining nine articles ranged from 300-500 words. Note: be sure that this content is in someway relating back to the main site that you wanted to increase traffic, sales, or reputation. Whatever your purpose, be sure that this content is helping.

5. Now you need to spread the content across the different social media sites. I added the larger articles to the more popular social media sites.

Of course the video went to you tube. And for the social media sites that allowed me to share a video along with my content I added the video to it.

These 12 articles and one video spread across 13 sites drove traffic back to my businesses website. The key here is to post your content on a site that has a high page rank. This will tell the search engines that the content is coming from a reliable and valuable source. In return, those high ranking sites give your site higher rankings (or a more trusted reputation) because it’s being promoted by a high ranking website. (Sort of like the popular high school student introducing the new kid – you start off on a higher social status).

Don’t stop there! With social media marketing you need to share the content. You can so this by using social bookmarking sites, posting the information to a blog and sharing the article links in a forum. People are always looking for free information. Share your free information with everyone you can. If it’s valuable and relevant to the web users you shared it with they will also bookmark it on social bookmark sites creating viral traffic.

Now if, you remember form the beginning my main purpose was to increase traffic to an already published website. I now have 12 articles, loads of social bookmarks, and a video linking back to my website. If I did my social media marketing correctly this will definitely increase the traffic coming to my business website.

But that’s not my only result: because I have all of these popular authority sites sending traffic my way, the search engines now see that I am providing valuable content. In return for providing this content and sharing it through social media marketing tactics I have boosted the listing placement of my original website. Now in the search results for my targeted keyword I have dominated the top 5 pages with articles, social bookmarks, videos, and more importantly my main business website.

With my recent efforts in social media marketing (with in the last month), I moved my business website from the 21st position in Google to the 8th. On top of that, I hold 14 other positions in the top 30 search results for my targeted keyword. All this and I didn’t use half of the resources available with social media marketing.

How To Use Facebook To Build Up Your Business

Facebook is one of the most popular social networking mediums, and their membership numbers are increasing quickly. It is a great tool for networking; but like many tools available for networking on the web, promotional or marketing activities are frowned upon.

So be careful when using Facebook and do your online marketing activities under the radar, or you might miss out on a powerful tool to boost your business.

In this article, I’ll give you some vital pointers to maximize the power of Facebook.

1) Just like any other social site, be careful what you put in your profile.

You don’t want to be seen as a link spammer. And you don’t want to give away too much personal information either (unless you don’t care that thousands of people may see your profile).

Just be careful with any personal details you put out there for others to see, such as where you live and pictures of your children. You do not want to pick up a stalker, especially when you are networking with strangers.

2) Don’t make the mistake of using your business name as your profile name, as this is against Facebook’s terms of service.

You are allowed to create other Facebook pages to brand your company, products or websites.

3) Respond to any friend requests and carefully send your own invitations. Make them personal and interesting.

Developing a great network is your long-term goal to generate a slow, but steady traffic stream to your websites. Use this tool to your advantage without being pushy or overbearing. Facebooks members hate spamming (who doesn’t?) and will carefully watch out for anything that violates their Terms of Service (TOS).

If you want to see profiles of those from another network, add them as your friends using the “Add to Friends” button. Follow the steps in the Edit tool to fill out any information you want others in your network, or others you accept as friends, to view.

4) Use various applications of Facebook.

Facebook has many applications which would make your networking experience easier or more enjoyable. Examples are applications for adding footage or photograph albums to your profile for others to see.

I’ll discuss two other powerful Facebook applications in a moment.

5) Use Facebook’s “My Questions” application to find out what people are exactly looking for concerning your niche

This is where posters answer certain questions about themselves and what they are looking for on Facebook. They will also list their interests. Use this in your networking activities.

Unless they have expressed an interest in your field, do not invite them to join your friends list. Of course, you can still ask them if you genuinely want to be their friend.

But if you are there to network for your website business, then choose your friends wisely. This is how you are building your list and getting traffic to your website. So you have to manage your time well and eliminate non-productive activities.

Again, be very careful about Facebook’s TOS. Do not go against it because breaking the rules will get you banned.

6) Use “Facebook Discuss.”

It is Facebook’s answer to instant messaging. Chatting, or IM’ing, on Facebook is truly quite easy when you use Facebook Discuss .

Just go to your Facebook page and you can start using Facebook Discuss immediately. At the base of each Facebook page, you may see your Facebook Discuss tools.

The first of the 3 Facebook Discuss tools is the online friends tool. This simply tells you which of your Facebook buddies is online at this time. The next Facebook Discuss tool is notifications that may let you know if you have any new Facebook notifications right from the tool. The 3rd tool in Facebook Discuss is the real discuss tool.

 7) Create and join Facebook groups.

Just as they have subscribed to your blog, they’re going to join your Facebook group. So people looking on Facebook for related groups would feel welcome to join.

Facebook groups are viral selling mechanisms. Search Facebook for groups on your topic and related ones. In each of these groups, you can post a message on the group Wall or debate board, or you may use the Post a Link feature to inform the group’s members of your group and your blog.

By promoting your Facebook group at first, rather than promoting your blog, you decrease the chance the group director will remove your message. Any Facebook member can make a group and invite users on their pals list to join.

A form prompts you to give the group a name, passing outline and class. At the following stage, you can customize your group’s available applications, upload a profile photograph and set privacy levels.

A secret group is fascinating for work-related activity, but it will not show up in search results. Choosing a closed group might be the best idea for you to protect your privacy. You will be inspired to choose members from your friends list to join the group.

When you start a group on Facebook, you can invite members to join the group and share their thoughts, viewpoints and consultations about your product, idea or start-up. Invitations to join a Facebook group can be through your Facebook buddies, your Yahoo contacts, etc.

8) Integrate your application into specific areas of the Facebook profile

A Facebook application can take on a lot of forms; but in order to entirely implement the selection of integration points and deliver a full user experience, it is advised that you integrate your application into specific areas of the Facebook profile.

This permits millions of viewers to see your business everywhere on Facebook and attract potential patrons, who would naturally visit your start-up Internet site.

Remember to follow all Facebooks rules; otherwise, you’ll risk getting banned and your account deleted. This is not what you are looking for. Instead you want to use the group feature to promote your website within Facebooks rules. Do not overstep by thinking you can get around the rules. Use Facebook features to your advantage and you will see an increase in your website traffic.
